Christina Song

Christina graduated from Art Center College of Design in 2010 with a BFA in Illustration. Her work primarily consist of paintings, drawings, mixed media, cut paper, three-dimensional elements, and found objects. Song likes hiking, traveling, and good food over good conversations. Christina’s work is very raw and focused towards children but still retains its appeal and communicated well to adults. With all the digital work popping up left, right and centre, it’s nice to see a bit of traditional, hand made illustration. Christina’s illustrations retain that fun and playful feel, which is so often lost as we become adults but Christina has managed to hold on to it, ultimately giving her illustrations a unique and individual feel.

Lukasz Wierzbowski

I love the whole vintage photography look that seems quite popular with magazines like Vice but this ‘look’ can get very old quite quickly unless it’s done well. Luckily, Lukasz Wierzbowski manages to pull it of really well, the photographs keep a unique look and have an certain aesthetic to them which ultimately makes them easy to identify as a Lukasz Wierzbowski photograph. Also, this is what tumblr is good for, awesome blogs like this, unfortunately tumblr is full of some awful crap as well.

Rubens LP

Another feature from a while ago but Rubens LP has updated his website with a new look and some new work. Rubens won the Bongs&Pipes Creative Award this year and continues to build a vast client list. The bright colours and line art style of Rubens work flows really well, producing a beautiful aesthetic.

Dale Murray

Freelance illustrator Dale Murray has an outstanding portfolio with a vast array of work. The simple shapes and pastel colours work incredibly well together, which ultimately, portrays his message very clearly. Overall just some really nice illustration and typography in a portfolio that is packed with brilliant work.

Juan Behrens

The internet has made the world a small place and whatever you think about that, you can’t deny that it has allowed us to share creativity and inspiration all over the world, even from places like Venezuela which is where Juan Behrens comes from. He has a diverse and incredible portfolio, full of colour and imagination. I think it’s quite easy to say that Juan has a natural talent and is passionate about what he creates.

Photography has been somewhat submerged in visual aesthetic since the rise of the internet. Everyone has become a ‘photographer’ and everyone can produce a ‘beautiful’ photograph due to the advancements in technology. So when you see someone who produces sets of photographs about real things and things that are close to their heart it’s really refreshing. The subject matters of some of Bogdans work are really unique and he approaches it an usual way. Yet I feel Bodan’s best photography comes in his ‘diary’ project, i believe this is where his talent shines, it will be interesting to see his future projects.

The Illustrator, Josh Evans has recently published his online zine, which weirdly enough is about a scam email from Africa in regard to a film script that includes action, snakes, intrigue, and golf. Incredibly weird but that’s why it works and Josh has found a way to put this across in a set of really stylish set of black and white illustrations with some nice typography. His other work has a really nice style, there is a lot of variety.

Mark Howe

We featured Mark Howe a while back for his design and illustration work but this time it’s about his new photography site. Marks background is in graphic design which is clear to see through his photographs that are very portrait orientated. He has some taken some lovely portraits in what seems like a new and fresh style. There isn’t much room for constructive criticism in Marks work, it has lovely compositions and perfect exposures, it will be interesting to see what he comes up with next.

The Anti Design Festival

As most of you probably know, The London Design Festival has been running this week and continues to run till the end of this weekend. However we aren’t here to tell you to go and visit the festival this weekend, we are here to tell you to instead, go and visit the Anti Design Festival. New this year, the Anti Design Festival has been brought around by Neville Brody, the graphic designer and typographer is world renown for his work on throughout the past 30 years.

The Anti Design Festival is “a response to 25 years of cultural deep freeze, the Anti Design Festival will attempt to unlock creative fires and ideas, exploring spaces hitherto deemed out-of-bounds by a purely commercial criteria.”. You could look at this as “Punk” reaction to design. If you are going to the London Design Festival this weekend then definitely check this out and create your own opinion. We would tell you to go and look at the website for the ADF but it will seriously make you hate the festival before you even go, so instead download this pdf programmer for the festival:

Charlie Hocking

2010 LCC graduate Charlie Hocking has been a winner of a D&AD brief, been published in creative review and been featured in a number of other places. You’ve only got to go on Charlies site to understand why he was a winner and why he continues to get recognition. You come across designers every now and then with work that shows their passion and the hard work they put in.

We may have featured Charlie before back in September 2009 but there is more than good reason to feature him again with his new website and projects. Charlies project “PHELPS – COLOURS” really shows that up and above his other work (if that isn’t diverse enough) he has skills in directing, set design and filming, a really nice music video. It may sound like we are jumping on a Charlie Hocking bandwagon but we really do think his work is THAT good.
